The exhibition “Drawings by European masters from the Louvre and the Museum d’Orsay. 1580-1900” has opened in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
The exhibition is dedicated to “travel notes” of Northern European artists, and includes 56 drawings, created between middle XVI to XVIII century. In the golden age of the Renaissance Nordic painters captivated Italy, bewitched by the remnants of the ancient world. But in the XVIII century the artists changed their focus and were more interested in Greece, the Middle East and Russia. 50 of the presented drawings are stored in the graphics department of the Louvre and another 6 drawings are from the Museum d’Orsay.
At the exhibition visitors can see works famous artists like Nicolas Poussin, Gustave Dore, Paul Gauguin, Paul Signac, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Jan Brueghel and Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Rembrandt van Rijn.
The exhibition is open until December, 10.
