The State Historical Museum of Moscow opened an exhibition “Pompeii – secrets of the buried city.” There are artefacts from the collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples on display.
The exhibition introduces visitors to various aspects of life in the urban area of Mount Vesuvius destroyed August 24, 79 AD by volcano’s eruption. The core of the exhibition is objects found during excavations of XVII-XVIII centuries in Pompeii.
Visitors will see the household items, as well as a large collection of artwork – frescos which were decorating houses of rich citizens. In addition, the exhibition presents a variety of gold jewellery and precious stones, silver and bronze tools, marble garden sculpture and fountains.
The exhibition is open until August, 15 2010.
